What I learned about decision making from chess

Over the boardStrategy
Specifically chess tournaments

As a beginner, I've noticed bad decision making on my part often follows from:

  1. Changing my mind at the last moment, and not thinking the change through.
  2. Making a "lazy"/"interesting" move without calculating because I get lazy. My intuition is nowhere near good enough for that.
  3. Only thinking about my side and not what the opponent will do in response. The opponent has just as many options for a response, including the most basic: Checks, Captures, Attacks.

Avoid being lazy and not thinking at all times!
