so weird... hikaru wasted the timer to win

If he didn't let the timer run out there would have been another game and another chance for Magnus to catch him in the score. By letting time run out, there was no time to start a new game and thus Hikaru won the tournament.
It's the rules of the tournament , a fixed time to complete your games. I'm sure Magnus would do the same if roles were reversed. And earlier Hikaru played a forced draw against the Pirc but took his time with the repetition.

no magnus would never do that. hakaru is the only one that would do that, magnus doesnt fear hakaru and would play like a gentile man.

None of us can read Magnus's mind, so it's impossible to know what he would have done. I repeat - Hikaru did nothing wrong and his actions were perfectly within the rules of the tournament. And Magnus is certainly capable of adapting his play to maximise EV - he's deliberately made short draws when that's all he needed.
Professionalised speed chess in inevitable dubious game ethics shocker.

Perfectly within the rules of the format, but grubby nonetheless.
