Carlsen: “I Would Beat Tal And Fischer”

He (Carlsen) has always been interested in the history of chess and has had the chance to play both Karpov and Kasparov, two legends of the game. But if he could play anyone in history who would it be?

‘I think the top ones would be Fischer and Capablanca, maybe Mikhail Tal, but I think I would beat Tal pretty easily. Fischer would be more difficult, but I think I could beat him too.’

Fischer and Tal are way above this arrogant kid.... if they were born in the same time, with the same theory, computers accsess, they would crush him like a bug.
I would like to see the strength of Carlsen without computers and all the support and coaches he's got. I don't understand how he dares to make such statement
I respectfully disagree. Carlsen's potential seems to be infinite.
yeah, players have continuously grew stronger with each generation, a 2000 FIDE today is much stronger than 2000 FIDE from before.

interesting this is not only in each, but also in other fields , for example, today's top pianist are much more skilled than older pianists.
And btw, when you've become the world champion twice in a row, its not arrogant to make such statements.

Ofc you get stronger when you can learn from the past players (like Fischer and Tal), and when theory gets more advanced with time, and you have more acsess etc...

Tal holds the records for both the first and second longest unbeaten streaks in competitive chess history, and all chess comunity knows how creative Tal was, and i think i don't even need to talk about Fischer. So yeah it does sound arrogant, to say he would beat them easy... no wonder he is losing to 2500Gms :D

And no, players of the same elo (2000, 2500 ,whatever) are not stronger than the ones from before, it is such a nonsence statement. Whats more, it can be opposite, Fischer didnt have from whom to feed his elo like Magnus can today...
its not a nonsense statement, i know many people who are older than me that go 2100+ ratings simply because they played decades before, when they became active again their ratings adjusted to 1900~

My chess coach also said something similar to this once.
Well using that statement, we can conclude that Fischer (top elo 2780), is weaker player than Topalov (2783), Kramnik (2799), Anand (2803), Nakamura (2793), Caruana (2787), Aronian (2781), Ding, Liren (2781), Anish(2778). I wonder why most of the top chess players consider Fischer the greatest of all time and not Ding Liren or otheres on the list, strange....Now read this post again and tell me it is not a nonsense....i would change that coach lol
