The prediction of 5 billion deaths because of Nuclear Winter seems to be overly exaggerated to me.

I'm sorry, I don't even know if it's possible that the temperatures would drop globally by 9 Degrees.
Even Carl Sagan admitted the numbers were inaccurate and the scenario posited was unlikely .
Also, the nukes now isn't as powerful as they were. They will not throw nearly as much dirt into the atmosphere.
5b out of the current 8/9/10b or 5b out of 5.05b people? right now it would be like 50%, so like Thanos.

uhh no, they still have MIRV'd warheads, 10 200kt nukes going off in a ring of a city like NYC would throw unfathomable amounts of detritus in the air. Doesn't really matter that vs some 20mt single bomb. Take that x 2000-5000 spread all across cities across the globe.. I mean nuclear winter is one thing, just the sheer disruption of all logistics would throw economies into complete chaos, famine would be global in tons of places except for small self sufficient rural areas. No electricity grid, gas would run out quickly, etc etc.
The Movie named, "Threads", speaks for it's self. :).
A nuclear winter will only cause 2 - 3 billion deaths, not 5 billion!
Please relax and chill out!
