I have no idea about this thread. But thanks @MrPushwood for giving me a topic to think about. I can try making a directory that gets list of several English literature from Internet after which I can program to find the name of book with unique starting and ending words. Seems interesting project. I will add it to my 'to do programs' list.

Looks like it's about time for Crime/Mystery! Okay, this time I'm gonna include (at least) the entire first & last sentences (which hopefully will make things a bit more graspable). And if it helps any, movies have been made of all of em...

1) In the year 1878 I took my degree of Doctor of Medicine of the University of London, and proceeded to Netley to go through the course prescribed for surgeons in the army. * * * * * “Never mind,” I answered, “I have all the facts in my journal, and the public shall know them. In the meantime you must make yourself contented by the consciousness of success, like the Roman miser: “‘Populus me sibilat, at mihi plaudo/ Ipse domi simul ac nummos contemplor in arca.’”

2) They threw me off the hay truck about noon. * * * * * If you've got this far, send up one for me, and Cora, and make it that we're together, wherever it is.

3) I was leaning against the bar in a speakeasy on Fifty-second Street, waiting for Nora to finish her Christmas shopping, when a girl got up from the table where she had been sitting with three other people and came over to me. * * * * * "That may be," Nora said, "but it's all pretty unsatisfactory."

4) It was about eleven o'clock in the morning, mid October, with the sun not shining and a look of hard wet rain in the clearness of the foothills. * * * * * All they did was make me think of Silver-Wig, and I never saw her again.

5) In the corner of a first-class smoking carriage, Mr Justice Wargrave, lately retired from the bench, puffed at a cigar and ran an interested eye through the political news in the Times. * * * * * And they will find ten dead bodies and an unsolved problem on Indian Island. (Signed) LAWRENCE WARGRAVE

6) The train tore along with an angry, irregular rhythm. * * * * * Guy tried to speak, and said something entirely different from what he had intended: "Take me."

7) I'd finished my pie and was having a second cup of coffee when I saw him. * * * * * All of us.

8) The summer nights are so pleasant in Caulfield. * * * * * And now the game is through.

9) It was a tough break. Parry was innocent. * * * * * The driver started the motor and then he faced the passengers and he said, "All set?"

10) His plans had been running so beautifully, so goddamned beautifully, and now she was going to smash them all. * * * * * "Where's Bud?" she asked.
>And if it helps any, movies have been made of all of em...

#6 A Hitchcock movie, by any chance? If yes, I don't know who wrote the book.
#7 No way you would put a Lee Child book in there, so I don't know. :)
